About
In January 2006 Daniel and Kaycee McCune were overweight. Years of eating on the grid, making poor food decisions and rarely doing anything close to exercise had taken its toll. Fortunately, we looked in the mirror and decided to make a change. We started by eating more sanely. After a couple of months of that, we started regular exercise. By the start of 2007, we had lost a combined 165 pounds. The journey to this lifestyle change involved a lot of research. We became devourers of nutrition information. Somewhere along the way we decided it was important to not only better, but to eat better food. We began shopping at the farmer’s market. We made friends there. Danny discovered that one of his uncles had started an organic farm. Two of our dear friends started an organic coffee shop. Slowly but surely we became organic eaters. Thankfully, we live in Oklahoma and there is an abundance of organic growers and ranchers. It is not hard to find most things you need. This was one half of the urge to open OurEarth.
Kaycee loves granola. She puts it on yogurt for breakfast. She sneaks it into the movie theater. She munches on it while watching her shows. We were spending a lot of money on granola. One day Kaycee was talking to a friend who suggested making granola herself. Kaycee found a couple of recipes and adapted them to her liking. The result was an awesome tasting granola product. Danny’s mom tried some and loved it. She took it to work. By the end of the day, Kaycee had several e-mails asking for granola. Meanwhile, Danny was working on bread. The McCune children love sandwiches and burn through bread quickly. Danny tried and failed several times to perfect a sandwich loaf. After months of trying, he finally got a great consistent bread.
These two factors combined with our natural desire to eventually work for ourselves led to the development of OurEarth bakery. If you buy our bread, granola, or any other product we decide to offer, you can do it knowing that we are not going to cut corners. We will offer products made with organic ingredients, grown locally and made to the same standards we make for ourselves and our family.
